As Senior Vice President/Managing Broker for the Buckhead Powers Ferry office and a respected Real Estate Broker licensed throughout the Southeast, John Barnes has been responsible for the sale of 100’s of millions of dollars in real estate since starting his career.  Over the years, he has also been responsible for marketing numerous new home communities.

Barnes distinguishes himself within the real estate industry as a pioneer for positive change by building on his outstanding record of success with his gifted ability to hire, train and coach successful sales associates. 

Barnes’ real estate career began in 1973 in Atlanta, Georgia as a successful sales associate with Harry Norman, Realtors. 

In 1980 Barnes accepted the position of Managing Broker for Coldwell Banker’s Marietta sales office. In just two years, his leadership rapidly propelled this office from 27th to 5th in the company rankings. Barnes’ next opportunity came when he was promoted to the position of Senior Vice President and Regional Manager of the company’s Atlanta operation. While in this position he managed 25 branch offices and over 1500 sales associates. He was honored by being selected to the company’s national training division, which was responsible for elevating managers’ abilities during a period of magnificent national growth of the company.

In 1988 Barnes joined Atlanta’s Buckhead Brokers to manage their Cobb regional office. He was responsible for growing the office to over 90 associates which sold in excess of a million dollars daily. Barnes’ office enjoyed the honor of being in the top 10 real estate offices in Atlanta.

In May of 2000 Barnes accepted the position as Director of Sales and Managing Broker, of a luxurious yachting community known as Cape Harbour in Cape Coral, Florida. In 13 months under his leadership $15 million of home sites were closed, exceeding sales projections by 300%. With that project successfully launched Barnes chose to return to Atlanta and joined Jenny Pruitt & Associates.  While at Jenny Pruitt, and again in his trademark fashion, Barnes’ moved his office into the top offices in the city within a few years.

Never wanting to rest on past achievements, in 2005 Barnes again accepted a new challenge and joined The Halter Companies where he remained for three years. The Halter Companies partnered with Trammell Crow Residential, one of the nation’s largest and most respected real estate firms, in developing numerous high end multi-family for sale communities throughout the Southeastern United States.

After spending one year as Managing Broker of the Ponte Vedra, FL office of Watson Realty, Barnes seized the opportunity to return to his Atlanta real estate roots at Harry Norman, Realtors.   He has received many honors for his excellence including the distinction of being the recipient of the Atlanta Board of Realtors “President’s Award” for a precedent setting two years in a row.
